Tip of the Day – Switch to Recycled Tissues

As cold and flu season approaches, it’s time to stock up on tissues.

If you can’t bring yourself to use a handkerchief, make sure to use tissues that are 100% recycled.  I like Seventh Generation 2 ply Facial Tissues.  They’re hypo-allergenic, whitened without chlorine bleach, unscented, and dye-free.

No, they aren’t as soft as some of the deluxe mainstream brands.  And they don’t have lotion built in to the tissue, but they don’t irritate my nose, or require the use of virgin tree pulp.

Plus, according to Seventh Generation,

If every household in the U.S. replaced just one box of 85 sheet virgin fiber facial tissues with 100% recycled ones, we could save:

* 87,700 trees
* 226,500 cubic feet of landfill space, equal to 330 full garbage trucks
* 31 million gallons of water, a year’s supply for 240 families of four
* and avoid 5,300 pounds of pollution!
