Green Razors

Posted on April 30, 2007 by Allie

Do you use a disposable razor? According to Ideal Bite, 2 billion disposable razors end up in US landfills every year.

Switch to a razor that uses replacement blades, and cut down on waste.

You can find razors with replaceable blades at the grocery store or pharmacy, or check out Recycline’s Preserve Recyclable Razors. They’re made from 100% recycled plastic (65% from reclaimed Stoneyfield Farms yogurt cups). When it’s time for a new blade, pop the blade cartridge off and replace with a new one, or send the razor back to Recycline in a pre-paid envelope and they’ll take care of recycling it for you.

  1. I have the Preserve razor, and it’s great.

I can get away with not shaving my legs in the winter (one of the joys of being single?), but I have this thing: I love to shave my legs! Yeah, for real.

I think that I could go one step further and use an actual razor blade, like Beth @ FPF does, but the prospect is daunting.

  2. [...] After all her research Michelle recommended the Preserve razor (which comes in both double or triple blade options), which has replaceable heads and recyclable handles made from post-consumer waste plastic, and as an added benefit, are cruelty free. This is perfect for me in two ways: 1. I’ve already well documented my love of Preserve toothbrushes. And 2. I got a Preserve razor in a holiday gift several years ago, and I still had the handle kicking around under my bathroom sink! As an added bonus Allie recommends them too. [...]

  3. I am a woman of Middle Easter decent-which means that I have very coarse hair on my legs and underarms. I am currently using Mac 3,but wish to use something greener. I have tried the Preserve razors before, but they cause me so much PAIN! I have to use something more like the Mac 3,it’s much more gentle on my hair. Does anyone have any suggestions? By the way,I am currently living in Denmark,so,if possible,it should be something I could get online,or in a Midwestern store (so my parents could get it for me).Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

  4. You can use other razor heads with the Preserve Razor body. But if you already have the Mach 3 Razor body, there’s no need to buy a new one just because it’s recycled.
