Tip of the Day – Eco-Friendly Weddings: Invitations

This week, I’m going to be talking about planning an eco-friendly wedding. If you’re not getting married, don’t worry, there will be lots of other info up, and many of these tips will also work well for a family reunion or party.

Invitations set the tone for your event, so choosing recycled invitations is a great way to show your guests that your wedding will be a green one.
- Surf Etsy for invitations made by hand from recycled paper like these (pictured above), or invitations made from recycled magazines like these.
- LotusHaus found some stunning invites with embedded seeds that will sprout when the invitation is planted.
- Make your own from scratch, or from a kit.
- Go paper free with Sendomatic or Evites.
If you’re looking for something more traditional, talk to your local stationery shop or printer about using recycled paper and soy inks. And consider cutting down on paper by using RSVP postcards, or have guests reply by phone or e-mail.
We made our own invitations. We bought a big pack of cardstock weight paper and turned it into invitations, RSVP cards, hotel information cards, and thank you cards. It worked out well since it automatically coordinated and we could create exactly what we wanted.
Oooo, I’m so glad you’re doing this. I think there might (might being the operative word) a wedding in my sorta near future, and I’ve been contemplating how to pull off a green one.

I have to admit that I did none of this. There were only 12 people at my wedding (including my husband and I). We didn’t send out any invites.
