I’ve read a lot over the past few years about the true costs of cars, and of course I’m on board with the idea. The thing is, though, I don’t think this argument holds up as well for people like me who have a vehicle that is paid for and thankfully doesn’t require much in the way of up-keep. Plus, my car is old enough that I only carry minimal insurance on it. As far as the amount of time you “waste” driving it, that’s up to the individual.
I guess the costs are what you make them, unless you just happen to buy a lemon, in which case you’re screwed.
I like the idea of art as gifts. I think I’m running into a problem now, and it’s that I have too many ideas for alternate holiday gifts, my potential budget is running higher than normal…
Also, I solved some of my car problems by living really close to work. I don’t mind being in the car 20 minutes a day, and when and if I ever get that bike up and running again, that commute shouldn’t be so bad, either. (Except for the one REALLY big hill…)
