Greener Holiday Gift Guide – Travel Coffee Mug

Posted on December 9, 2008 by Allie

Thinking of getting a gift card to a coffee shop for your caffeine addicted friend or family member?  Take it a step further and get them a reusable coffee mug.

Check out this great mug from GreenFeet.  It’s stainless steel with a car–cari–carib–I can’t use the word.  I should have included this in my 7 things about me post the other day.  I cannot stand the proper word for the clip that makes up the handle of this mug.  I hate the way it sounds.  I hate the way it looks.  And I have no idea why, but it totally makes me cringe.

Anyway, this great clip handled mug would make a wonderful holiday gift.  Looking to make it a bigger gift?  Add some fair trade organic coffee beans, or fair trade chocolate to the gift.  Or that gift card you’d been thinking about.

Also, check out this great post from Our Little Apartment on how to use a reusable mug at your favorite coffee shop.

  1. If your loved one is also an avid bicyclist you could also get them a cup holder for their bike.

  2. Thanks for the shout out!

I’m looking for a travel mug for my husband this Christmas. (I already bought him a refurbished iPod. Recycling + digital music = win!)

I was considering the “I’m not a paper cup” ceramic cup, but I’ll have to check this out as well!

  4. I’ve heard a lot of words on peoples’ cringe lists, but that one? Really? Huh. (It takes all kinds, right?) :-)

  5. I had to click through to the link to see what the word was. I didn’t even know those clips had a name.

Looks like an excellent present idea.

  6. Mr Chiots and I bought stainless steel water bottles for our nieces & nephew for Christmas.

I once had a stainless coffee mug with the carabiner handle and I didn’t like it, it was always coming open when I was trying to drink and it eventually broke off. I now have one with no handle and I LOVE it (plus it fits better in the cup holders in my car).

  7. Biner! Biner! Biner! :)
I had one of these mugs about 4 years ago, and lost it– and never could find it again. Thanks for posting the link, now I can replace it! I love that it’s really like a small thermos/travel mug in one– very useful.

  8. Stainless steel makes a nice liner for mugs and water bottles because you don’t have to worry about the plastic leaching anything into your drink.

I have also noticed that those carib-clips are coming in different shapes now. Maybe it is just for the Christmas season, but I saw tree and reindeer shaped ones just the other day. I didn’t notice what they were called. If I see them again I will have to check. I think a lot of places are starting to call them D-clips, which is at least easier to say.

Tip of the Day

If It Doesn’t Smell, Don’t Wash It

According to Real Simple, if every American made an effort to launder less — cutting out just one load of laundry a week per household — we’d save enough water to fill seven million swimming pools each year.

So if it looks clean, and it smells clean, call it clean and wear it again. Consider hanging worn clothes out on your clothesline to freshen them up between wearings.
