Bring Your Own Mug!

Posted on November 3, 2008 by Allie

Starbucks is offering a free cup of drip coffee to voters on Election Day (tomorrow!) as an incentive to get out there and vote.  While I don’t think (or at least I hope) that anyone who wasn’t seriously thinking about voting will now go cast their ballot just because there’s a free cup of coffee in it for them, I suppose it’s a nice gesture.

However, the greenie in me can’t help but think about all the lids, cups, and sleeves that will end up in the trash.  So if you’re planning to take advantage of this offer from Starbucks, please bring your own coffee mug along with you.

And, while you’re there, ask them if their free coffee offer includes Fair Trade Organic Coffee.  Hopefully, if people keep expressing their interest in Fair Trade Organic, it will become more of a mainstay in Starbucks everywhere.  From my understanding, they do carry Fair Trade Organic, but don’t often have it brewed.

If you don’t already have a reusable mug, look for one that’s stainless steel or ceramic, and check the interior to make sure the inside isn’t plastic (the lid will most likely be plastic, I haven’t found one that isn’t).  While traveling recently, I used my travel mug for everything from coffee to iced tea, so I never had to take a cup or buy a bottled beverage at restaurants.  And since it’s gotten chilly, I’ve been using my travel mug at home, because it’s insulated and keeps my coffee warm longer than a mug.

  1. Ben and Jerry’s is also giving away a free scoop of ice cream!

    And they’re a great company. :)

  3. hi!

thanks for sharing, though I couldn’t find it on the website to send to some people.

i think i was told they have fair trade organic coffees but say, only for one espresso type or one flavor of coffee, not every single choice there. but usually there is one brewed.

any one else find something different?

  4. Thanks for the heads up! Since I plan on getting to my polling place the moment it opens at 6am, maybe I’ll take them up on their offer as a post-voting reward.

  6. There’s a video on the website when you first sign on that talks about the free coffee. I think there’s also a Facebook page about it.

I believe you can bring in any mug. I don’t think they require a Starbucks mug, but I’m not 100% on that.

    Wishing we had a B&J’s around here . . .
