TED Talk: Being a Weekday Vegetarian
Posted on May 24, 2010 by
Here at The Greenists, we don’t judge people for eating meat — but we can’t ignore the fact that a vegetarian diet is much less taxing on the planet than a carnivorous one. One of my friends recently saw this TED Talk video, and it inspired him to become a weekday vegetarian — someone who goes vegetarian during the week and saves the meat for the weekends. If you’re looking to reduce the amount of meat in your diet, this is a great way to do it without going cold turkey (no pun intended).
Do you eat meat for every meal? Have you made an effort to cut down? How did you do it?

I tend not to cook meat at home, but usually order it when I eat out. We have been eating out less lately, though, so on those nights when we would have eaten out, I fix a meat meal at home. Generally. No hard and fast rules!
I like what he says about rejecting the binary veg – non-veg choice. When I was a vegetarian, there was always that meat-eater that would try to challenge me by proving that I harmed some animal in some way when I wasn’t 100% strict. Now that I started eating meat again, I don’t have a specific philosophy other than, “only eat meat when it’s worth it.”
