Santa Cruz Organic Cherry Spritz

As we just discussed, I hate shopping.  That does carry over into food shopping too.  And I’m kind of a child about it.  I need to motivate myself to go with little rewards.  In the case of going to the natural foods store, if I go, I let myself buy a natural soda from their fabulous selection.  I know that’s weird, and I’m probably sharing too much, but it’s just the way it works.  I hardly ever drink soda otherwise.  It’s all water or tea.

Yesterday’s soda selection was outstanding.

I chose Santa Cruz Organic Cherry Spritz because it was organic, and the other sodas in the cooler weren’t, but I expected it to be kind of syrupy.  It wasn’t.  It was tart, not too heavy, and totally refreshing.

Here are the ingredients:

Filtered Water; Organic Evaporated Cane Juice; Organic Cherry and Organic Lemon Juice Concentrates; Natural Flavor.

Usually, if you look at natural fruit flavored sodas, there will be a mix of juices, usually heavy on pear and/or apple, no matter what the flavor, so they all kind of taste the same to some extent.  This one tasted like cherries, and it was awesome.

It’s no health food though.  There are 140 calories in a can and 32 grams of sugar.  And aside from a little extra potassium and vitamin C, there aren’t really any benefits.  It’s just an indulgence, but it’s still better than a can of soda loaded with high fructose corn syrup and goodness knows what else.

  3. Yes, that stuff is really good. Every try the Blue Sky tea sodas? You may wish to treat yourself with some of those, too! :)

  5. I’m glad my fiance and I aren’t the only ones who treat ourselves to a fruit soda at the whole foods grocery store. We have tried a variety of flavors such as tangerine, clementine, black cherry and pomegranate. I don’t think we have ever seen an organic one but we will keep our eyes out from now on.

  7. I think they’d have to say what was in the concentrates if it contained anything other than the fruit.

  8. Oh! And it’s certified organic, so it can’t contain corn syrup anyway.
