Living Harvest Hemp Milk

Posted on April 8, 2009 by Allie

I have tried almost every form of “milk” out there.  Goat milk, soy milk, oat milk, rice milk, almond milk – you name it, I’ve probably tried it.  My favorite, so far, is hemp milk.  Heating up a little Living Harvest Chocolate Hemp Milk in the microwave makes for the most absurdly decadent hot chocolate.

One glass has:

  • 800 mg Omega-3 with SDA
  • 2600 mg of Omega-6 with GLA
  • All 10 Essential Amino Acids
  • 4 g Digestible Protein
  • Vitamins A, B12, D, E, Riboflavin & Folic Acid
  • Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Iron & Zinc
  • 40% Daily Value of Calcium
  • Not too shabby, huh?  It’s slightly higher in calories than some of the other “milks” out there.  The website says there are 210 calories in a serving, but my package says there are 150, and both state there are 4 servings per container, so I think we are comparing the same serving size.  Either way, I feel like this product is worth the calories.  It’s delicious and it has a lot of nutritional value.  Makes for a perfect treat.

    1. I’m always a little suspect of milk substitutes (I don’t drink much milk, either) because I always wonder what they had to do to the poor plant to make it milky, and how much crap they have to add to make it as nutritious as the label claims–and then I wonder whether or not we actually need 200% RDA of vitamin B, and whether that’s healthy…it just can’t be natural (a vegetarian food that contains B12 has to be augmented–B12 is only found in animal products).

    2. I think that’s why it’s important to consume a wide variety of foods in moderation.

A simple way to keep your house warm is to seal the bottoms of doorways with a draft stopper. You can usually purchase them inexpensively, but making one is a fun, easy DIY project.
