Winter can be a big energy drain. You drive when you might have walked or biked. You turn the heat up on icy days. You keep the coffee pot warm all day. But here are some human-powered ways to enjoy winter. Read more…

  4. What to Do When You Forgot Your Bag

    Posted on by Allie

    pro_item_03.jpg

This morning, I had an appointment and then I had to stop at the store for a few things on the way home.  I was late for my appointment and ran out the door at the last minute without my grocery bags.  I ended up running to BJ’s instead of going to the grocery store (they have a selection store brand organic foods now!).  Since warehouse stores don’t even have bags, it wasn’t an issue, but before I decided to go to BJ’s, I was brainstorming on how to deal with my forgotten bags.   Read more…

  7. I Have No Friends!

    Posted on by Allie

I’ve finally gotten down with what all the kids are doing these days and gotten myself a Myspace page (even though everyone’s on Facebook now, right?).  I don’t know how to use Myspace yet, and I need to fix my page a bit, but I’m planning to post links to my tips every day and maybe some personal blog entries (if I ever get around to it).

So, if you’re on Myspace, please be my friend.  Right now, Tom is my only one and that’s just sad.

  8. Say No To Petroleum Products

With the economic restrictions of the average family, it’s hard to make changes like buying a hybrid car, or putting solar panels on your house, or picking up and moving closer to your job to cut your petroleum use. Those are changes that you may be able to make long term, but here’s something simple you can do today. Read labels. Read more…

  10. Melt Down Old Candles

If you light candles in your house, you’ll know that there’s a point where there’s still wax left, but the wick is gone.  Recycle the wax and make new candles!

Tip of the Day

Let’s Talk About the Schoolbus

For a lot of kids, going back to school means riding the bus. In some neighborhoods, the school bus stops at every single child’s house, where it idles and waits for the child to collect her things, say goodbye to mom, pet the dog, smell some flowers, and skip (at a leisurely pace) over to get on the bus. Not only is the bus idling the entire time, but so is every car behind the bus.

If this happens in your neighborhood, talk to the bus company and to other parents in the neighborhood. Set up a common school bus pick up spot at the end of your street or someone’s driveway. A little conversation can make a big difference.
