An Interview with Mia Li from Ivee

Posted on May 14, 2009 by Allie

Mia Li from Ivee is absolutely lovely.  She was so kind to take the time to answer some questions about Ivee for us.  After you’re done reading, visit the IVEE website.  Come back and leave a comment below, telling us about  your favorite Ivee design, and get a second entry in the Ivee $100 gift certificate contest.  And, be sure to follow IVEE on Facebook and Twitter!

When did you start Ivee? What was your inspiration?

IVEE was started to fill the void in fashion forward yet environmentally friendly sportswear. We are a runway inspired clothing line designed for the busy contemporary woman, allowing someone to move easily from yoga, pilates, dance or the gym to coffee or lunch with effortless yet polished style. Our first collection was launched in 2008 in made available at leading boutiques, high-end gyms and spas.
What efforts do you make to keep the production process easy on the environment?

We researched many different fabrics and chose bamboo to be one of our mainstays. Bamboo fiber has many benefits, such as being hypo-allergenic, naturally anti-bacterial odor preventing, and generally resistant to allergies and skin irritations. Bamboo plants are also very quick growers and do not require fertilizers or pesticides. They require very little water and are a sustainable and renewable resource since the bamboo plant is self replenishing. Also we use environmentally friendly dying, which is a much cleaner process for all of our fabrics.
What plans do you have for Ivee in the future?

We plan to continue bringing comfortable and stylish designs to our customers and expanding our product categories to incorporate environmentally friendly products.

What green practices do you maintain at home?

Recycle on a daily basis; donate books, clothes to local libraries, hospitals and good will stores. Use energy efficient appliances. Avoid using any disposable cups and utensils. Also, opt for green products wherever I can, such as natural cleaners and soy candles.
What do you think is the most important thing the average person can do to lessen their negative impact on the environment?

Anything you can do to make your life greener is important. The most important thing is to keep environment in mind and make meaningful choices on a daily basis.

One simple thing everyone can do and start to make an impact right away is by opting-out of (posted) junk mail. Opt out of those catalogs that you no longer flip through or choose e-statements instead of paper statements will save many trees every year.

Thanks, Mia!

  2. The Ava top is so cute, but I am not sure how that would work with a sports bra…

I love the Bamboo fiber concept! Bamboo is all over the DC area and it really is quick growing and quite invasive… a great replenishable resource.

  3. I’m in need of a new hoodie. I like the Trinity, hmm, can’t decide what color though. I also love the pants, I could use a new pair for yoga.

  5. i like this company’s steps to go green as much as they can. sometimes going all out is not possible , but why should that stop companies who can do SOME steps?

    Cheers!

  6. After taking another look, I can’t help but think the Vivi boatneck tee is adorable. I normally shy away from 80s-inspired clothes, but something about that top is just so awesome!
