Lisha Lynn Mineral Cosmetics Foundation (+ Giveaway)

Posted on October 27, 2008 by Allie

I’ve had a really hard time finding affordable foundation that isn’t full of icky chemicals, doesn’t make my skin break out, and isn’t too heavy or gloppy.  I even tried a drugstore brand mineral makeup, but it left my skin looking overly powdered, and caked up quickly.  I was convinced that mineral makeup just wasn’t for me, but Lisha Lynn Mineral Cosmetics sent me some samples, and I’m hooked.

I’ve been testing this makeup for a few weeks now, and I really can’t get over how well the Lisha Lynn products work.  They are so easy to apply.  I use a big makeup brush and sweep the foundation on in circular motions, then I take a smaller brush to touch up my under eye area and hit any blemishes or red spots.  Most liquid foundations make my skin look rough and bumpy by the end of the day, accelerating any pending blemish, so I don’t tend to wear foundation much at all.  My skin really seems to like this foundation, and I like feeling a little more polished when I go out.

The foundation does a great job evening skin tone and covering imperfections, the blush is subtle and natural looking, and the finishing powder is the equivalent of putting a soft filter on a camera.  I don’t usually wear eyeshadow, but since it was included in the samples, I’ve tried it a few times, and it goes on nicely, and looks very natural.

I applied some foundation and finishing powder before I went hiking on Saturday.  I don’t usually wear makeup while hiking, but I wanted to see how it would do.  My skin still looked fresh after a couple hours of hiking.

All of the powders are mixed by Alicia Redden, founder of Lisha Lynn Mineral Cosmetics.  While a few of the liquid products do contain parabens, the powders I tried  (and all of the powders in the collection) are paraben and phthalate free.  I haven’t tried any of her skin care line products, but Alicia assured me that the Breakout Buster Cleanser, the Mud Gel Cleanser, Cocoa Butter Creme, DMAE Serum, Face Firming Serum, Antioxidant Creme, and Herbal Creme are all paraben free as well.

Lisha Linn Mineral Cosmetics is giving away a $25 dollar gift certificate to an Allie’s Answers reader!  To enter, sign in here with a valid e-mail address to leave a comment.  Only one comment/entry on this post per person will be counted.

Later in the week, I’ll give you a chance to enter again to increase your chance of winning. The giveaway will close on Sunday, November 2nd, at noon (Eastern), and I’ll use the Random Number Generator to determine the winner.  The winner will be announced on Monday, November 3rd. 5. I know it’s a random number generator, but it would be great if that random number could take compassion on this blogger who just the other day accidentally spilled all her $35 a bottle foundation all over her hair dryer. And she didn’t even like the make up that much, but kept using it to make up for the guilt of spending that much money on anything.

  9. I’m struggling to find makeup that is not all chemicals and won’t make my skin freak-out. Since turning 29, my skin has decided it wants to be completely different now: as in dry and gross. So, I’m looking for some new stuff!
    Thanks for the recommendation.

  10. If you love the foundation, try her skin care products! They are fabulous. Within a week of using her skin care products, my employees began commenting how much softer my skin was looking! The anti-aging serum is awesome and it’s never too early to begin using it. I wish I had had these products 20 years ago!

Try applying the foundation with a sponge too. Sue, Lisha’s Mom, talked me into using it and I get better, more even coverage.

  24. Lisha Lynn is the BOMB! I spent scads of $$ on mineral & liquid makeups in the past. Even if you don’t win the prize here, you need to put out the $16 it costs to get her mineral foundation(which will last an easy 8-10 mo’s), mine lasted one year before reorder. Can’t beat the quality or the price. Just do it!

  33. i wish you would have considered doing a contest with a company that doesn’t use ANIMAL hair brushes! they break off on your face and shed leaving little black hairs all over my perfect mineralized complexion! maybe you can get my fave brand, Afterglow to run a contest with their vegan brushes (no animal hair = no shedding!). if you are still looking for a mineral brand tht doesn’t itch (that’s the bismuth oxychloride ingredient) and stays on all day you should check out my current obsession Afterglow Cosmetics. They have a 100% money back guarantee and can help you find your shade over the phone (sounds weird but it works – the beauty advisor was spot on!!)

  34. Hi Lena,

I don’t actually use an animal hair brush with the mineral makeup, and I haven’t had any itching. There isn’t any bismuth oxychloride in the product. I’m still using Lisha Lynn foundation, and am absolutely thrilled with it.

I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you too.

  35. [...] 2. Lisha Lynn Foundation, Blush & Finishing Powder – Alicia Redden was so kind to answer our questions and sponsor a gift certificate giveaway this year, but that’s not why I love her products.  I love them because they work.  I am so hooked.  I’d tried drugstore mineral foundations, but they really didn’t cut it.  I love the flawless, but natural finish Alicia’s foundations provide, and I love her commitment to product safety.
