Be Back Later – UPDATED

Posted on November 20, 2008 by Allie

Ick.  I have to go to the dentist today to have two failed fillings replaced.  I didn’t really know fillings could fail.  I figured they either stayed in or fell out.  These are still there, but apparently aren’t doing their job anymore (thanks, old dentist who’s name I can’t remember).  I’m okay with getting teeth filled, but the idea of getting the fillings removed is freaking me out.

Anyway, if I’m not in pain, I’ll write another post later this afternoon. But I wanted to tell you that I washed my face with grape seed oil last night (as per Julie Gabriel’s guest post), and goodness!  It worked so well.  Seems so counter intuitive to clean dirt and oil with oil, but it was amazing.  Took my make-up off so well.  My pores looked clearer, my skin felt softer, and I was really pleased with the way my skin looked when I woke up this morning.

I like to try skin care products for a few weeks before I declare any kind of official verdict on them, but my first reaction on grape seed oil is that I’m impressed.  And, you can’t beat the price.  Under $5 bucks for a bottle that looks like it’ll last 6 months or more.  Not bad at all.

I’ll keep you updated.

Update: The filling replacement was quick and nearly painless (my jaw was killing me yesterday).  One of my metal fillings was replaced, and I’m happy to have a fully white (and mercury-free) smile again.  My dentist (who is amazing, by the way) assured me that the metal filling would be properly handled so as not to pose any environment risks.

My husband jumped on the grape seed oil (which I found in the cooking oil section on my local grocery chain) bandwagon too, and his skin was looking great this morning too.  I had a few clogged pores that seem to be turning into pimples.  It feels like the oil works to draw impurities out, and I’m hoping that once their all out, I’ll have very clear skin.  The few blemishes are not red or inflamed though, which is really nice, and overall, my skin looks fantastic.  I won’t give you daily updates on this, because I’m sure it would get boring fast, but I promise to check back in after a week or two to let you know how it’s going.  If you decide to give it a try, give me an update too!

And if you’re looking for a more specific beauty routine, fill out Julie Gabriel’s Green Beauty Makeover Questionnaire.

  1. That’s a great tip–I never would’ve considered trying it, either. Thanks, and hope your dentist visit goes okay–

  2. Your old dentist must have been named Crentist. What a failure.

  3. I had a no fun dentist experience with fillings just on Monday. I feel your pain. Getting fillings removed isn’t so bad. My dentist removed a bunch of my old mercury ones and replaced them with porcelin. Its something I wanted to do before I have another baby anyhow (not that that day is coming any time soon).
    I use the oil cleanse method myself. I love it. My blackheads are slowly fading away. And my skin has never been so glowing. There’s actually a website for it, I think its theoilcleansemethod.com. Google it, and I’m sure you’ll find it. You should try mixing some castor oil in with your grapeseed oil. I use a 50/50 blend of castor and olive oil.

  4. Ick. I’ve had fillings fail before, and I was sooooooo mad. They’re painful enough the first go around without having to get them done again.

  5. Well, you’re a braver woman* than I am. My teeth need desperate attention, but I just keep putting it off for a variety of reasons. I should probably get over this. Good luck!

    * – Er, man. I mean you’re a woman, but…never mind.

  6. Fillings replaced? Piece of cake! It’s never as bad as you think it will be! They aren’t meant to last a lifetime and usually need to be replaced at some point. You might want to opt for something other than a filling with mercury– less toxic and they look better. Good luck!

    I’m fascinated about the grapeseed oil product. Is it pure grapeseed oil?

  7. [...] Allie’s Answer’s blog for about a month now and was especially inspired by a couple of posts that talked about natural skincare. I was especially interested in the guest post by Julie Gabriel [...]
