Badger Sport Bar Ginger and Lemongrass Organic Soap

Organic Needle has been reviewing bar soap lately, and after reading this review I was set on giving Burt’s Bees Milk and Shea Butter soap a try. I couldn’t find it when I looked for it at the grocery store, so I decided on Badger Sport Bar Ginger & Lemongrass Fine Organic Soap.
From Badger:
After a hard day on the Playing Fields of Life, use this soap to relax muscles, soothe mind & cleanse body. We chose organic and wild-crafted ingredients for their healing effect on both Planet and skin. Essential oils add fragrance & pleasure and provide therapeutic effect. The result is an amazingly fine soap for healthier skin.
I love the invigorating fresh ginger scent, and my husband likes it too. It’s nice to find a soap be both enjoy, because even when I try to go gender neutral with scents, I often end up with soap that’s a little too flowery for J’s taste.
Badger Sport Bar leaves my skin soft and clean, and isn’t drying, and the ingredients are simple:
Saponified Oils of Organic Coconut, Organic Extra Virgin Olive, Organic Palm Fruit, Organic Palm Kernel and Wild Castor Bean, with Natural Beeswax, Wild African Shea Butter, Seabuckthorn Berry & Essential Oils of Lemongrass, Ginger, Rosemary, Cardamom, Sage and Thyme. Our essential oils are either certified organic, wild-crafted or natually cultivated and processed.
This is definitately going on my shopping list again. I think I might buy a few extra bars and store them in my dresser drawers, so my clothes smell gingery.

That sounds like it smells wonderful–I love ginger. Where’d you buy it?
Our local chain of grocery stores has a very respectable natural foods & personal care section.
My favorite bar soap is Kiss My Face Lavender because it smells delicious, it’s reasonably priced, and it makes me oh-so soft. Only downside: looks like a gigantic booger after a few uses. Yeah, it’s gross.
I love all things ginger, so I think this would be fantastic. I’ll have to look for it at the health food store.
One of the things I love pointing out about so-called “natural” soaps is that there’s nothing natural about saponification, which is the process of cooking the living bejesus out of oil in lye (sodium hydroxide, if you must know). Lye is extremely caustic–it burns like hell and there’s a reason why people who make their own soap have thermometers, because it’s more dangerous than the rocket fuel my boyfriend cooks up on a regular basis.
It’s so weird, the things that we think of as “natural”.
Right now I’m using this tea-tree and citrus all-natural goat’s milk soap:

The goat’s milk is really moisturizing, and the fragrance is fresh but subtle. I found it a Merz Apothecary in Chicago, which is a fantastic shop. I can’t say enough good things about them. I went in asking for goat’s milk soap and they showed me about 6 different options and told me which brands were all-natural and which were not. I’ve never seen so many bar soaps in one place in my life! You can order their stuff online at the link above.
I received the book in the mail; thanks!
Additionally, I discovered yesterday that alcohol (of any sort – I used vodka because we had it in the house, but apparently rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer also work) and some scrubbing will remove paint (even dry!) from clothing. This is a great way to keep clothing looking new and in rotation.
Good soap is so hard to find. I end up ordering mine through Drugstore.com. I will have to add this one to my list.
