Alchemilla Calendula Cream

Posted on April 16, 2009 by Allie

It’s been a long, cold winter here, and my skin has been paying the price.  Every winter, no matter what I do, my knuckles get raw and red, (J teases that it looks like I punched someone, but I swear, I only use nunchucks when I fight crime in back alleys).  This year, it was so bad, that I broke down and went to the dermatologist.  She gave me a steroid cream that only served to make it worse.  My hands hurt all the time.  I felt like nothing would ever fix it, and spring seemed way too far away.  It was depressing.

Alchemilla sent me some skin care samples to try.  All of their products are great, and I’ve enjoyed using them, but the Calendula Cream is like a miracle in a tube.  I was using it as a night face cream (it’s a little thick for day use), and loving it.  One night, I squeezed a little too much out of the tube, so I used the extra on my hands.  The next morning, when I woke up, they felt a little better.  I tried it again.  Great results. The problem is not completely gone, but if I’m dilligent about using the Calendula Cream, my hands stay happy.  I am thrilled.

Ranked by Skin Deep as one of the safest skin care companies in America, Alchemilla is made in small batches, often with herbs grown on their Oregon farm.

Alchemilla uses:

  • 100% wind powered farm and manufacturing facility;
  • Organic plant material grown by ourselves;
  • Fully recyclable packaging;
  • Biodegradable, toxin-free ingredients;
  • Cleaning products at our manufacturing facility that are chemical free and biodegradable;
  • The majority of additional required ingredients from local, American organic suppliers;
  • 100% post consumer waste material in all printed invoices, brochures and marketing goods;
  • Packaging peanuts salvaged from other companies or manufactured from biodegradable plant starches.

The Calendula Cream comes in a metal tube with a plastic cap.  It really doesn’t have any sort of scent at all.  If you’re really sniffing for it, you might detect a very very slight floral smell, but nothing that’s noticible or distracting.  I love this, because I have a hard time falling asleep if I can smell my personal care products.  I know that’s weird, but it’s true.  This cream is on my must-have list, and I will certainly purchase new tube when mine runs out.

  1. I can’t fall asleep with scented products on me either! I will have to keep this cream in mind over the summer — the air is really dry in Wyoming.

A simple way to keep your house warm is to seal the bottoms of doorways with a draft stopper. You can usually purchase them inexpensively, but making one is a fun, easy DIY project.
